MACKINAC COUNTY--A man is dead at a home where a fire broke out on Portage Street, Friday, according to Michigan State Police.
While MSP was conducting a welfare check, the home exploded into flames. Officers heard gunshots from the home but could not enter due to the fire. St Ignace Fire Department was called to the scene. The home was unsalvageable.
Authorities found one man dead after the fire was put out.
Police believe the male homeowner died of suicide. The name of the homeowner has not been released. No other people were at the home.
This incident remains under investigation.
MACKINAC COUNTY -- A tense situation unfolding in St. Ignace.
Multiple police and fire agencies spent much of the afternoon and evening at a fire on Portage Street across from the St. Ignace school property.
Details are limited, but the Mackinac County 9-1-1 coordinator tells 9&10 News that law enforcement was dispatched to the house just after 2:30 Friday afternoon.
Soon after a fire erupted.
As a precaution, the school buildings were placed on lock down. The investigation remains fluid at this time.
