OTSEGO COUNTY - In September 2024, the Michigan State Police Gaylord Post was asked to investigate missing funds from a family trust.

The alleged perpetrator, 26-year-old Kyle Alan Karsten from Elmira, wrote himself checks from the trust totaling more than $11,000 in 2023, troopers said. He also allegedly forged the signatures on the checks, they said. This was done without permission from the trustees, state police said.

A report was submitted to the Otsego County Prosecutor’s Office and an arrest warrant was authorized for Karsten on Jan. 24. Karsten was arrested and lodged in the Otsego County Jail.

Karsten was arraigned this week in the 87-A District Court in Otsego County on two counts of forgery, troopers said.
