Kiwidinok Farm in Boyne City fosters connection between visitors and animals

BOYNE CITY — At Kiwidinok Farm in Boyne City, Jim Dixon has transformed his passion for animals into a welcoming haven where visitors can engage directly with a diverse array of creatures. The farm, co-owned with his wife Dawn, offers an immersive experience that emphasizes the bond between humans and animals.

Established in 2013, Kiwidinok Farm began as a personal endeavor for the Dixons. Over time, their collection expanded to include Tibetan yaks, Katahdin sheep, alpacas, lionhead rabbits, peacocks, and miniature ponies. Recognizing the community’s interest, the Dixons opened the farm to public tours in 2022, allowing guests to pet and feed the animals.

“We spend many hours socializing our farm animals so that you can have the best and most memorable experience,” said Dixon.

Visitors are often greeted by Billie Bob, a friendly Bourbon Red turkey known to accompany guests on tours. Dixon takes pride in educating visitors about each animal’s behavior, ensuring safe and enjoyable interactions. The farm’s cleanliness and the animals’ demeanor reflect the care and dedication invested by the Dixons.

“Beautiful farm, some of the nicest people on earth that own it,” remarked a visitor. “You can tell right away that all of the animals are very well cared for and loved.”

Beyond animal interactions, Kiwidinok Farm features an on-site gift shop offering souvenirs and local products, allowing guests to take home a piece of their experience. The farm also hosts seasonal events, such as the “Babies on the Farm Festival” in spring and “Christmas on the Tibetan Yak Farm” during winter, enhancing the visitor experience.

The name “Kiwidinok,” meaning “of the wind” in the Chippewa language, reflects the farm’s connection to nature and the surrounding environment.
