Consumers Energy: Count On Us - Campbell Power Plant to close

As a part of Consumer’s Energy’s mission to lower emissions and convert to sustainable energy sources, they are set to close their J.H. Campbell coal based power plant. But Consumer’s Energy does not want to lose any of the talented local staff that have called the plant their home away from home and have offered all employees the ability to transition to other departments.

Many may now be wondering what’s next for the plant. The progress that Consumer’s Energy has made with their seven coal-fired units that were retired in 2016 are a good indication. Known as the “Classic Seven” these transitions brought in community input and support while finding modern solutions to the aging problem of coal.
