On Jan. 1, a Harrison woman reported to the Clare County Sheriff’s Office that a man had bought a car from her using fake hundred dollar bills.

She said the man contacted her through her listing on Facebook Marketplace and they arranged to meet at her home in Harrison. The man paid her $3,600 in hundred dollar bills.

A short time later, the woman took the bills to a gas station where a counterfeit pen showed several of the bills were fake. She tried to contact the man but said his Facebook account had been deactivated.

The Sheriff’s Office checked the remaining bills and determined they were all fake. They listed the car as stolen and asked law enforcement across the state to look for it.

The next day, an officer from the Three River’s Police Department in St. Joseph County, Michigan, found the car. During the traffic stop, the officer identified Victor Julio Telleria-Sanchez as the suspect and said he was a non-U.S. citizen in the country illegally. Victor arrested and transported to the Clare County Jail.

Victor was charged with one count Larceny by False Pretenses over $1,000 and under $20,000, a felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison, and one count of Uttering and Publishing Counterfeit Notes, up to 5 years in prison. His bond was set at $50,000 cash, and a detainer has been placed on Victor from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
