Remains found in Oceana Co. identified as those of man who went missing at Electric Forest music festival

ROTHBURY - Detectives from the Michigan State Police Hart Post have confirmed that human remains located Monday, Dec. 30 are those of Kevin Graves of Highland Township, Oakland County, who was reported missing to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office in 2018 after attending the Electric Forest music festival.

Forensic anthropologists from The Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine made the positive identification Thursday, Jan. 2 through dental record comparison. The cause of death has yet to be determined and may take several months, however there are no indications of foul play at this time.

The Michigan State Police wishes to thank the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, Western Michigan University, and the Oceana County Medical Examiner’s office for their assistance and partnership in this investigation.

OCEANA COUNTY - On Monday, Dec. 30, troopers and detectives from the Michigan State Police Hart Post were sent to a wooded area near Rothbury, Oceana County, regarding the discovery of human remains.

The investigation continued Dec. 31 with additional evidence being recovered, state police said.

Forensic anthropologists from the Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine responded to the scene to assist with the recovery, troopers said.

A positive identification of the remains cannot be made at this time pending autopsy results and further investigation, state police said.
