CHIPPEWA COUNTY - A community is coming together to help a young family after their house went up in flames on Christmas Day.
Six people, including four young children, escaped the flames that started around 2 p.m. on Dec. 25.
Five volunteer fire departments responded to the fire on Johnson Road a few miles north of Rudyard in Chippewa County, according to officials.
A neighbor said that Jeremy Tell was inside a shed by the road when the chimney of his house caught fire.
His fiancee, Kayle Price, was in the house and woke up to smoke and was able to get their children safely out of the house.
Tell tried to put out the chimney fire by climbing onto the roof and spraying the fire with a garden hose, but the blaze was too intense, officials said.
Tell was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, officials reported.
Now, the community is reaching out to help the family.
“I’m so glad they got out. You know, they are a wonderful family. We are all tore up about it, but you know, whatever then need, we will be here for them,” said neighbor Ritchey Brown.
