TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Arts Commission has announced the Inaugural Traverse City Mural Festival, scheduled for Sept. 12-17, 2025.
According to a Dec. 23 news release, the Inaugural Mural Festival is the leading project of the North Boardman Creative Initiative, a multi-year initiative to contribute to the vitality of the newly established North Boardman Lake District through artful placemaking.
Following the reconstruction of Eighth Street and the completion of the Boardman Lake Loop, the district’s identity and initiative evolved from the swell of new people, development, and energy in the corridor. TCAC is seeking at least 5 artists to create murals inspired by Traverse City’s resources and cultural history on participating private properties and businesses throughout NOBO, with the general public invited to watch the murals created in real time.
The festival will also hold supporting events throughout the festival to engage artists, community members, and visitors in thoughtful dialogue. TCAC has partnered with several organizations to support the festival, receiving a $12,000 grant from the Michigan Arts and Culture Council and a $10,000 commitment from TART Trails.
Artists interested in participating in the Inaugural Traverse City Mural Festival can learn more about the festival, eligibility, and how to apply at tcpublicart.org/calls-for-entry.
