Deputies from the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office minor died after being trapped under an all-terrain vehicle on Monday, Dec. 16 on private property in Reynolds Township.
Deputies said a 14-year-old boy from Howard City on a 2019 Polaris Ranger was travelling at a high rate of speed behind the family home when he hit a pile of roofing trusses. He was thrown from the Ranger, which landed on top of him.
Some time later, a family member discovered the accident and called emergency services. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies said he was not wearing a seatbelt or helmet.
The Tri-County Schools superintendent was notified as the boy was a student there.
Deputies were assisted by Montcalm County Central Dispatch, Montcalm County Emergency Medical Services, and the Montcalm County Victim Service Team.
