Today we pay a visit to A.R.K. (Association to Rescue Kritters) to explore what happens when juvenile and full grown animals are injured and in need to rehabilitation. One of the first steps is evaluating their injury while keeping them contained so that they do not cause themselves further damages.
From porcupettes (baby porcupines) to squirrels to native box turtles, A.R.K. does not turn animals away that in need of a home to heal in, but the goal with the group is always to return these animals to the wild once that are able to care for themselves.
The community can do a number of things to help, anything from volunteering to donating. But something all Michiganders can do (and in particular hunters) is cease the use of lead ammo rounds. These are used often to hunt small game and when the harvest is left in the wild, it becomes an easy meal for birds of prey which then will suffer from severe lead poisoning.
