KALKASKA COUNTY — Kalkaska County officials on Tuesday, Dec. 10, announced the arrest and charges against a man wanted for multiple offenses.
On Dec. 3, Kalkaska County resident Terry Jordan Barkovich was arraigned in Antrim County 86th District Court on numerous charges, including home invasion, possession of methamphetamine, fleaing and eluding police, and concealing stolen property.
A manhunt for Barkovich took place from Nov. 20-22 after a vehicle pursuit that ended in a collision with a large piece of concrete on private property on Johnson Road in Antrim County, officials said. Methamphetamine and a stolen Honda minibike were found in the vehicle, officials said.
Barkovich fled the scene on foot, then deputies were notified that a pickup truck was stolen from a residence on nearby Nothstein Road, officials said.
On Nov. 21 the stolen truck was located behind a home on Leonard Road, officials said.
Deputies attempted to arrest Barkovich, who ran on foot into the woods, they said. An Antrim County K-9 unit was used to try to find Berkovich in the Leonard Road area, where he was believed to have broken into a cabin and stolen items from it, officials said.
The sheriff’s office was assisted in the search by the Michigan State Police, Kalkaska County Sheriff’s Office, and the drone units from the Grand Traverse and Charlevoix County Sheriff’s Offices and Boyne city police.
The search was terminated about 11 p.m. after Barkovich could not be located. But on Nov. 22, Berkovich was arrested by Kalkaska County deputies when he was found in a stolen vehicle in a park in Kalkaska County.
He remains in custody in the Antrim County Jail.
