EMMET COUNTY — On Tuesday, Dec. 3 around 9:15 a.m., Emmet County Sheriff’s Office deputies, along with the Michigan State Police, were sent to a traffic crash on US-131 south of Howard Road in Bear Creek Township.
The crash investigation at the scene concluded a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, driven by a 69-year-old man from East Jordan, was going south on US-131 when it lost control due to snowy/icy roadways, deputies said.
The pickup entered into the northbound lane of travel, where it was hit by a 2018 Freightliner semi-truck, driven by a 41-year-old man from Sears, officials said.
Due to injuries suffered in the crash, the 69-year-old man was declared dead at the scene, deputies said.
A 2021 Chevrolet Express van, driven by an 81-year-old man from East Jordan was also involved in the crash as it attempted to evade the initial crash, deputies said.
Names of those involved in this accident are being withheld at this time until the families of those involved can be notified.
Alcohol or intoxication does not appear to be a factor in the crash, deputies said.
