SAULT STE. MARIE — Three big exhibits made their way from the Great Lakes Children’s Museum in Traverse City to Sault Ste. Marie.
A freighter, lighthouse and Coast Guard-themed exhibits were unloaded into the old Lynn Auto Parts and will remain there until spring. Then they will be moved to the new Soo Locks Children’s Museum.
The museum in Traverse City was in the process of moving and offered the exhibits at a great price. Soo locals Dr. Craig and Kathy Flickinger donated $8,000 to covered the expenses.
“We are excited because we can have move-in ready exhibits once the construction is done. We are closing the bid on that so the construction should be coming pretty soon. Once that happens, we can move these pieces in and have something for our kids,” said Raqual Fernandez-Earns, president of the SLCM board of directors.
The $2 million project is expected to open in Sault Ste. Marie late summer or early fall 2025.
