OSCODA COUNTY — On Dec. 1 at 10:04 a.m., the Oscoda County Sheriffs Office was sent to M-33 near Curtisville Road in Big Creek Township for a three-vehicle crash. When deputies arrived at the scene, they said they found that a 48-year-old woman from Mio who was driving a 2007 Jeep Liberty was dead as a result of the crash.
Based on the sheriff’s department investigation and statements of other drivers that witnessed the crash, it is believed that the 48-year-old was traveling south on M-33 when she lost control of her vehicle and went over the center line, causing her vehicle to hit the northbound guard rail, and then colliding with a northbound van that was driven by 44-year-old man from Prescott, deputies said.
The occupant of the Jeep was then struck a third time, by a 2019 Ford F150 that was traveling south on M-33, deputies said. The driver of that truck was a 73-year-old man from Coldwater.
The 44-year-old man was taken to a nearby hospital and released with non-life-threatening injuries, deputies said. The 73-year-old was examined at the scene and required no further treatment, they said.
An accident investigator from the Michigan State Police assisted deputies with the crime scene investigation, and officials said road conditions and speed were possibly factors in the crash, deputies said. The accident remains under investigation.
