CADILLAC — With a fresh coat of snow and more in the forecast, Caberfae Peaks in Cadillac is gearing up for the season opener.
There’s already 10 to 12 inches of snow on the slopes and with the colder temperatures, they were able to start up the snow guns earlier this year and run them for 84 hours straight, building up the base.
Caberfae said they’re grateful for the colder weather and excited to get the season going.
“This is a stark contrast to last year. Last year we just never really had the cold weather and sustained. We’d make a little bit of snow, then we’d have a period of warm weather where we lose the snow that we made. So this year, right now, we have more snow on the hill than we’ve had all the last year. We’re really excited to get the season started off on the right foot,” said manager Pete Meyer.
Meyer said they will have three chair lifts running with most of the north and east peaks open. Doors open at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7.
