CADILLAC — The Cadillac Police Department said Nov. 27 that a car hit a utility pole on Nov. 26, knocking out power to some Cadillac residents.
On Nov. 26 around 10 p.m., officers were sent to the intersection of South Blodgett Street/East Division Street for a report of a vehicle that had struck a utility pole and then left the area.
Prior to officers’ arrival, the caller advised Wexford Central Dispatch that the vehicle had returned.
Upon arrival of the officers, a white Toyota Camry was located within the intersection and fire was observed in the engine compartment, which eventually spread to the entire vehicle, police said.
Officers located the driver, a 22-year-old male from Alma, they said.
Officers learned that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed south on South Blodgett Street and struck a utility pole, shearing the pole at ground level and causing residents in the area to lose power, police said.
The driver was taken to Munson ER and was released to medical staff, police said. A warrant will be sought from the Wexford County Prosecutors Office for charges relating to the incident.
Alcohol and speed are believed to be a factor in the incident, police said.
Officers were assisted by Cadillac Fire Department, MMR and Michigan State Police.
