TRAVERSE CITY — Grand Traverse County Parks and Recreation and TART Trails are seeking additional public input for updating the Vasa trailhead.
The Vasa Pathway is a muti-use trail used by outdoor enthusiasts all year around. Plans started to come together a year ago to improve the parking lot, better manage stormwater and create a better user experience.
The Parks & Rec department said the dirt lot is sloped and causes washouts when it rains and gets severely rutted during the winter months. Now, they’re presenting the community a plan that incorporates prior public feedback and asking your opinion at the next meeting.
“We want to make sure that the park meets everyone’s needs. It is a great place for people to enjoy and that it works well in both the winter and in the summer, because that is an all season, all sport park. We have to include the public to really make sure that we’re developing the park, right. If we don’t include the public, we’re doing that in a vacuum, and that’s not fair to the people who are using the properties.
The event will be held on Monday, Dec. 2 at 5:00 p.m. at the Vasa trailhead, located on Bartlett Road in Traverse City.
