Michigan State Police troopers at Post 82 in Sault Ste. Marie spread a little Thanksgiving cheer this past week, but it involved drivers seeing some flashing blue and red lights in their rear view mirror.
Community Service Trooper Cody Mayer from the St. Ignace post worked with Pat’s Foods to donate six certificates, each worth a free 14-16 pound turkey. It was part of their “random acts of kindness” event.
On Monday, Trooper Mike Mariuzza wrapped up handing out the certificates in the Soo by randomly picking out cars and pulling them over. After a moment of explaining the traffic stop, or should we say “turkey stop,” to the driver, he handed over the certificate.
“Initially, you can see that they are a little concerned or they did something wrong or wanting to know what they did, but once we start explaining things and tell them about the gift certificates and the turkey, a lot of excitement and a lot of people are very grateful for it,” said Trooper Mike Mariuzza.
Post 82 in the Soo also has Stuff the Blue Goose and Shop with a Cop campaigns coming up for the Christmas season.
