TRAVERSE CITY — There is a new Indian restaurant coming to Traverse City - India Garden, located on State Street where Scalawags used to be.
The new restaurant has plans to open on Jan. 8 at 303 E. State St., in the former Scalawags space.
The owner, Malkeat Singh, is originally from India and wanted to bring his culture to the area. The restaurant will be a dine-in sit-down-style restaurant with options for takeout.
They have completed the painting and added the final touches to the restaurant before opening day.
Singh is hoping to soft launch the restaurant with carry-out if they are not able to take dine in guests by then.
The menu will feature foods like butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, tandoori, fresh bread and more.
“People (were) going to Grand Rapids from Traverse City and telling me things like, ‘You need to bring your stuff over there.’ That’s why (I found) a place over here,” says Singh.
Singh is excited to share his Indian culture with people who may have never experienced it before and hopes the community enjoys it.
