GRAWN — Firearm deer season starts in eight days, but before you head out for your hunt there are important measures to take to make sure you are following the rules and staying safe.
First you must cover your body with at least 50% of hunter’s orange. This ensures that when other hunter’s see movement from far away. They know you are not a deer. It’s also suggested to let someone close to you know where you will be.
“It’s good to have all that knowledge knowing what you’re going be doing when you’re out there.
If you run into a DNR officer, you know, you’re following the rules and you’ve ...got yourself in orange and you don’t have to worry about, you know, getting into that situation where you’re going to get in trouble, not be able to call somebody, have the proper communication on you, have to have the right equipment that you need at that time,” Gary Jurkovich, co-owner of TCH Gear in Grawn.
If you are heading out into the woods to hike, bike or see the views during rifle season it is also suggested to wear hunter’s orange for your own safety.
