OTSEGO — Karing Home Youth Project and The Refuge are hosting a series of micro-events to raise awareness about the growing challenges faced by homeless individuals in Otsego County.

“KHYP focuses on individuals aged 18-25 and The Refuge provides support to people of all ages,” Stefanski said. “Today, we are excited to announce a new partnership aimed at raising awareness of the growing challenges faced by homeless individuals in our area and the increasing strain on our resources.

According to Stefanski, homelessness in Otsego County is a complex and urgent issue, and young adults who are served at KHYP as well as the diverse individuals and families of all ages who turn to The Refuge for help face significant obstacles daily.

“These challenges include finding stable housing, accessing mental health care, securing employment, and obtaining basic necessities like food and clothing,” she said. “With winter approaching, the need for support is more critical than ever. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, the resources we have at our disposal are being stretched to their limits. Our community programs, emergency shelters, and outreach services are struggling to keep up with the rising demand. The reality is that without increased community support, we may not be able to continue providing the same level of assistance to those who need it most.”

Stefanski said there are many ways you can support the organization’s efforts including:
