MT. PLEASANT — The Stripes & Pieces Foundation is helping to put on a motorcycle and car tribute cruise to benefit Greg Smith’s fiancée Hollie and their four kids.
Greg Smith was killed after a 66-year-old Detroit man drove into a construction zone on northbound US 127 and River Road in Union Township on Sept. 13.
The Isabella County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation is still active, but discovering what led to the crash has been a slow process.
The fundraiser will take place Oct. 26 and will start at the Black Elk building parking lot Then they will ride to the Welcome Center Monument in Clare where other construction workers killed on the job are memorialized and end at the Jaime Performing Arts building in Farwell.
Stripes & Pieces founder Lynette Brown said they are selling stickers to raise awareness for the safety of construction workers while they are on the job working in construction zones.
“They’re a hard hat with Greg’s name and his date with wings. And they have reflective so that the construction workers can put them on their hard hat, or you can donate by purchasing them to put on your vehicles to get the word out,” said Brown
Brown said there will be a silent auction as part of the event, and they are looking for donations still.
