Beaver Island named International Dark Sky Sanctuary, one of only 22 in the world

Lifestyle reporter Rachel Rademacher takes us to Beaver Island, where they recently celebrated receiving recognition as an International Dark Sky Sanctuary, one of only 22 other locations in the world. This is a huge accomplishment for the state of Michigan and the local community.

The award was presented by Dark Sky International, an organization working to maintain and save the night for generations to come. The group works hard to avoid and diminish light pollutants across the nation.

At Beaver Island, you have a beautiful view of the night sky with little light pollution, often with a clear view of the Mily Way and the Aurora Lights. The Dark Sky Organization of Beaver Island has been working hard for years for this achievement and is now celebrating as a community their efforts of diminishing light pollution on the island.
