2 injured in Crawford Co. hit-run; suspect driver chased down by deputies

CRAWFORD COUNTY — Sheriff Ryan A. Swope said that on Sept. 29 at 1:43 a.m., first responders were sent to a car accident on northbound US 127.

Deputies located the heavily damaged vehicle and found that a passenger had been ejected and the driver was trapped in the vehicle, officials said. Deputies were told by witnesses that another vehicle had caused this crash and fled the scene.

Deputies located a vehicle on northbound I-75 matching the description, they said. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle refused to stop, leading deputies on a chase, they said.

While fleeing, the vehicle caught fire and was disabled, deputies said.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested for flee and elude, leaving the scene of an accident and OWI causing serious injury, deputies said.

The two people injured in the accident were taken to Munson Hospital for serious injuries, deputies said.

The incident is still under investigation.
