Lake Superior State University hosts 9/11 tribute

‘We should be talking about this day in and day out’

SAULT STE. MARIE — Dozens of students, faculty, local law enforcement and firefighters attended Lake Superior State University’s 9/11 ceremony Wednesday morning.

LSSU’s new President David Tracy, Dean of Student Affairs Michael Beazley and Sault Ste. Marie City Manager Brian Chapman all spoke about that fateful day 23 years ago.

Future first responders, current students at LSSU, were also in attendance – some of whom weren’t even born when 9/11 happened. However, at least one student said learning about that day helped him make his career choice.

“Seeing their jump to action and their drive to do a job and complete a job...we are here for the same reason. We are all here to help people,” said Joseph Dijanni, LSSU Fire Science sophomore.

The university also placed nearly 3,000 American flags around campus to commemorate the day.
