NMC approves funds for security system at new apartment building

TRAVERSE CITY - New security measures for an apartment building in Traverse City. The building was acquired by Northwestern Michigan College back in April and soon it’ll see exterior and interior security cameras in common areas, paired with a swipe system for the entrance.

That $132,000 system was just approved by the college’s Board of Trustees. The college believes that that multi-tiered security is another way to ensure that students have a good experience at the school.

“But it also gives us the added benefit of being able to use our security software,” says NMC Associate VP of Public Relations Marketing and Communications Diana Fairbanks. “So heaven forbid there be an emergency where we need to do a lockdown. We can do that remotely. at the flip of a switch. So there are many layers of security with the keycard access. Again, making sure that our students and the tenants there are, safe and secure. And so they can, make sure that they feel good about their experience.”

Fairbanks also says that Northwestern Michigan College is constantly looking for ways to improve upon and evolve security on campus.
