Lake Superior State University welcomes their 11th president

SAULT STE. MARIE — Lake Superior State University’s new president was officially welcomed to campus with an investiture ceremony Tuesday morning.

Dr. David Travis is the 11th president at the small university in Sault Ste. Marie, which last year had just over 1,700 undergraduates.

Current and former professors, community leaders and others joined together to welcome Dr. Travis. The ceremony featured his formal installation to the position by Tim Lukenda, chair of the board of trustees.

Dr. Travis said he’s eager to lead using his dedication to academic excellence and community engagement.

“Two months in and [I’m] loving every minute of it. I knew there would be some challenges, but I think the challenges are not as great as I thought they might be to overcome. We have some enrollment challenges and some budgetary things we are working on, [but] we have a plan,” said Dr. Travis.

Dr. Travis will be welcoming in new students to campus on Wednesday and returning students later this week.
