Roger Craig takes over command of MSP’s Traverse City Post

TRAVERSE CITY — There’s been a change of command at the Michigan State Police Traverse City Post.

First Lieutenant Roger Craig stepped into the role earlier this month, 11 years after beginning his career with MSP at their Metro Post serving the Detroit area. He also served as an infantry officer with a combat tour in Afghanistan.

Craig said he has big shoes to fill, and he wants the community to know that troopers aren’t just law enforcement officers.

“We are your police, just like the Traverse City PD, just like Benzie Sheriff’s [Office] and just like Grand Traverse. We are a part of your services. We are a part of your life. And if you need us, we are part of the solutions that you have and not just in a work capacity. We’re going to be coaches. We’re going to be teachers. The trooper mentality that we have here is, we’re never off duty,” said Craig.

Craig is a Greenville native and moved to Traverse City back in October.
