Petoskey Librarian Lisa Scholl celebrates 20 years of serving the community

“I’ve worked with Lisa for almost ten years, and it’s been a true pleasure. You know, watching her, and her enthusiasm not only for kids, but the whole community,” said Petoskey Library Director, Val Meyerson.

Lisa Scholl has been serving the community of Petoskey at the Petoskey District Library for 20 years.

“I’m, in the children’s department, and I order the picture books, a lot of picture books. And board books and do the story time. And it’s really fun. It’s very rewarding. Meeting all the, kids and the parents and seeing kids grow up. I’ve been here so long that I see them like little and then grow into toddlers and preschoolers and elementary schoolers. So, it’s really fun seeing them grow up and, also the learning that they do,” said Librarian, Lisa Scholl.

While Petoskey is home for Scholl, her librarian journey has taken her all over the Midwest.

“I worked in Chicago and in Grand Rapids and at the library for the blind in Chicago and at the Washington Library. And then I moved back to Petoskey and, worked here. And I was so excited to be able to get a job because I grew up here,” Scholl said.

But she doesn’t just work at the library because she loves to read. Her passion is the people.

“It’s really important to help people and to build strong communities. And I feel like working at the library, being able to connect people to the library and to, books and, and stories and, just giving them, knowledge, helping them to learn to explore,” said Scholl.

“Lisa started a lot of our outreach programs here in Petoskey that are still growing strong because of her passion of really making a difference in our town,” said Meyerson.

You can always find Lisa in the kid’s department at the Petoskey District Library. Whether she’s leading story time, ordering the latest books, or interacting with the kids.

“It’s really nice for me as the director because she’s, trustworthy, and people love her. she does what she says she’s going to do, and she’s, supportive of everybody on staff as well as the community. So, it’s always, a relief for me knowing that she’s in the building,” Meyerson said.

“I’m just really grateful to be able to work here. And it’s so important to the library. It’s so important in the community. It’s a place for people to explore and learn and, play. The kids love playing here. And I’m just really grateful to be able to, to work here,” Scholl said.
