Michael Stevens has been named chief meteorologist at 9&10 News. A Cadillac native, Stevens began work at his hometown station on Feb. 22, 2010. It was full circle from when he told his second-grade teacher he was going to be a weatherman on 9&10 News one day.

Stevens worked on Michigan This Morning for 12 years, followed by the Noon news, The Four and then he created and hosted a multi-award winning video game show for 910 Media Group called “The One Up XP Show.” After three years of that road, Stevens saw another chance to grow as chief meteorologist.

Stevens takes over for Tom O’Hare, who moved to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula after 20 years at 9&10 News.

“I never aspired to be chief in my career, but with Tom O’Hare’s tutelage and the ever-changing weather of the Great Lakes region, this was my next step,” Stevens said. “Let’s explain to Northern Michigan the who, what, when, where and why of our weather. Let’s show them what our team does and why it is important to see our forecasts in all of our platforms. That’s what I want to accomplish. Our communities are most important; let’s show that.”

Stevens earned his degree in meteorology with a minor in physics while playing NCAA Division III hockey and baseball at Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin. He and his wife, Kiel, moved to Minot, North Dakota for his first job as a weatherman.

Michigan’s weather, deer camp and an opening at 9&10 News brought Michael and Kiel back to Northern Michigan. The Stevens’ have two dogs and a huge tank of goldfish. Stevens enjoys hunting, golfing, camping, fishing and video games.

9&10 News is part of 910 Media Group, based in Traverse City and Cadillac. It covers nearly three dozen counties in Northern Lower Michigan and the Eastern Upper Peninsula.
