Boat found submerged in West Grand Traverse Bay

TRAVERSE CITY — Grand Traverse County Dispatch reported that a submerged boat has been in West Grand Traverse Bay near Clinch Park since Wednesday morning.

Dispatch notified the owner and it will be recovered. They said submerged or abandoned boats are not uncommon for this time of year.

Before heading out on your boat, it’s important to know your boat safety information. The DNR recommends checking your boat before heading out to make sure there’s a fire extinguisher, first aid kit and an anchor. Life jackets are also legally required for each person onboard.

In case of sinking or another emergency, have a float plan, know your route and the surrounding area. It’s also important to stay alert for swimmers, other boaters, skiers and objects in the water.

Make sure to carry your cellphone with you. You can always call 911, but it’s also a good idea to know local dispatch, police or Coast Guard phone numbers.
