Grand Traverse Co. commissioner Brad Jewett gets 5 days in jail and probation for soliciting prostitution

Grand Traverse County commissioner Brad Jewett was sentenced Monday, Dec. 23 on the charge of engaging in services of prostitution.

He received five days in jail, six months’ probation and must pay $1,625 in fines and fees.

Jewett must begin serving his jail sentence by Jan. 15, 2025 at 6 p.m., officials said.

TRAVERSE CITY — On Tuesday, Grand Traverse County Commissioner Brad Jewett was arraigned on one count engaging services of prostitution, a 93-day misdemeanor, and one count Using a Computer to Commit a Crime, a one-year misdemeanor.

Jewett will next appear in the 86th District Court on Sept. 26 at 11:30 a.m.

TRAVERSE CITY — Clayton Hall was identified as the third man arrested with Grand Traverse County commissioner Brad Jewett.

He was charged with one count child abusive activity, one count using a computer to commit a crime, two counts accosting a child for immoral purposes, and one count resisting/obstructing/assaulting a police officer.

TRAVERSE CITY — Scott Barrett has been identified as one of the other two men arrested with Grand Traverse County Board of Commissioners vice chair Brad Jewett.

Barrett was charged with accosting a child for immoral purposes; possession of child sexually abusive material; child abusive activity; tampering with evidence; and using a computer to commit a crime.

Aggravated possession charges are applied in cases where the material is violent in nature, the minor was sexually abused, or the offender has prior convictions for child sexual exploitation. A convicted offender faces harsher sentencing.

TRAVERSE CITY — The Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office on Friday said a county commissioner - along with two others - were arrested during a multijurisdictional undercover operation this week. The operation took place June 19-20.

9&10 News spoke with Grand Traverse County Board of Commissioners chair Rob Hentschel. Hentschel confirmed that the commissioner arrested was Vice Chair Brad Jewett. He says Jewett was taken into custody and then released on bond. He had no further details.

The operation included the Traverse City Police Department, Homeland Security, Genesee County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

No charges have been filed, and the investigation continues.
