Ludington house party stabbing suspect turns himself in, claims self-defense

LUDINGTON — On Tuesday, Derrick Henton of Manistee was arraigned for a stabbing that happened over the weekend in Ludington.

Henton was charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder.

Police say the victim is expected to survive.

LUDINGTON — A Manistee man is behind bars facing arraignment for an alleged stabbing in the city of Ludington over the weekend.

Ludington Police captain Mike Haveman said they were called out to Corewell Hospital’s ER around 6 in the morning on Saturday.

Haveman said a 21-year-old Mason County man had been stabbed several times.

The victim was treated at Corewell Ludington and transferred to Corewell in Grand Rapids for additional care. He is expected to survive.

Haveman said after further investigation, it was discovered that the man had been stabbed at a house party in the 500 block of Emily Street after an argument with another person at the party.

“It stemmed from an argument our victim was indirectly involved in. Also, we learned through the investigation that the suspect had left the area and had gone to Manistee. Our detectives went to Manistee, and with the assistance of the Manistee PD and Manistee Tribal Police were able to make contact with the suspect,” said Haveman.

Haveman said the suspect then turned himself in, admitting he stabbed the man twice in self-defense.

He was arrested and is currently behind bars, awaiting arraignment on charges of ‘assault with intent to do great body harm less than murder.

LUDINGTON — Ludington Police are investigating after they say a 21-year-old man was stabbed several times at a party.

Officers were called to the ER on Saturday around 6 a.m. They learned that there was a house party at a home on N. Emily Street where the suspect, a 20-year-old male from Manistee, stabbed the victim three times, after an argument with somebody else.

The suspect ran away, but LPD detectives were able to find him in Manistee and convinced him to turn himself in.

Detectives say the suspect admitted to stabbing the victim twice but claimed self-defense.

The suspect was taken to jail and charged with Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm Less than Murder. The investigation is still active.
