UPDATE 4/24/24 7:00 p.m.
CADILLAC — Despite lease issues they say forced them to close, popular Mexican restaurant Herraduras is vowing to continue on.
Owner Imelda Rodriquez says although they plan to keep serving the same food at Cantina Bamba on the other end of town, they are also looking for a new location for Herraduras – potentially even the former Cast Iron Kitchen.
Herraduras shut down last Monday, April 15, after 19 years in business. Rodriquez says they were forced to close because their lease agreement was not renewed despite their best efforts.
But, she says, the outpouring of support from their customers has kept them going.
“[The community] really gave us a tremendous sendoff the first week that we announced that we were going to be shutting down. We were just overwhelmed with the customer base that we have built over the years,” said Rodriquez. “That is mainly the reason that I would like to continue to serve the community, be part of the community and continue the legacy [at] Herraduras number two.”
Rodriquez said if they can’t find a spot in Cadillac, they would consider relocating to Traverse City. They hope to reopen in the next four to five months.

Herraduras announces closure
CADILLAC — A popular restaurant in Cadillac is shutting down in less than a week.
Herraduras Mexican Bar and Grill posted a notice about the closure at the restaurant which said their last day will be April 15.
The notice said it was not an easy decision, but because their lease agreement was not renewed and despite their best efforts to work something out with the property owner, they are being forced to close down.
They also said they will continue to serve the same food they have been serving at Herraduras at the nearby Cantina Bamba.
