State police announce arrest in truck vs. bicycle hit-and-run on M-55

MISSAUKEE COUNTY - Michigan State Police Cadillac Post troopers said Tuesday that an arrest has been made in the January hit-and-run case.

In that incident, a bicyclist, a 36-year-old man from Shelby, suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized in the intensive care unit at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City for several days, troopers said.

State police said a tip was received that led troopers to the suspect vehicle, which they said they found at a tow yard in Alma. The vehicle, a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado, had damage consistent with the evidence collected at the scene, troopers said.

An arrest warrant was authorized for the owner of the vehicle, 37-year-old John Lynn Major from Lansing, troopers said. He turned himself in Jan. 20 at the Missaukee County Jail.

Major was arraigned in the 84th District Court in Missaukee County on one count failure to stop at scene of accident resulting in serious impairment of death, troopers said.

State police would like to thank everyone who provided information resulting in an arrest being made in the case.

CADILLAC — Michigan State Police say a person on a bicycle was injured after a truck hit them and drove away.

Troopers were called to M-55 east of Cadillac on Monday night. They say a cyclist was riding east on the shoulder when a driver in a truck hit them from behind.

Troopers say the truck slowed down but then took off towards Lake City. They say the cyclist was wearing a headlamp, high visibility vest, and their bicycle had reflectors. The cyclist was injured but not severely.

MSP is looking for a 2017-2019 Chevrolet or GMC pickup, unknown color, with chrome plated mirrors. The passenger mirror was broken off, and there may be further damage to the front or back passenger doors.
