Today: Clipper Continues
Expect this scattered snow to stick around throughout the day.
Most of Northern Michigan will see 3-6″ of fresh new snow with isolated 6-8″ of snow total.
Winds will be out of the West/Southwest at 15-35mph with gusts upwards of 50mph.
While the heaviest of the snow will be in morning, still expect white conditions and slick roads through the evening commute.
Expect this system to break apart by 6PM.
Highs will be in the mid 20s to mid 30s.
Tonight: Drier
Isolated snow showers will start clear out as you head off to bed tonight.
After midnight, skies are mostly to partly cloudy across Northern Michigan.
Winds are still breezy from the NW at 10-20 mph.
Lows in the low teens to mid-20s.
This Weekend: A Messy System
Saturday is looking mostly sunny to a mix of sun and clouds.
Highs will be in the mid 20s to mid 30s.
A major winter storm will start to move in late Saturday and early Sunday morning.
Right now, what is for sure is that Michigan will be walloped by a very strong low-pressure system Sunday and Monday.
What we haven’t pinned down as of yet is the exact location of temperatures changing snow to rain.
Latest models have shown a tiny shift to the North, now this does not change much, but it will make it something to watch as that effect our snow/ice line.
This really does not change much, still expecting crazy amounts of snowfall for the U.P., Tip of the Mitt, and parts of the Northern Lower.
As we get closer to the Southern parts of Grand Traverse County and further South, freezing rain and ice becomes the concern.
These areas could see upwards of .5″ to possibly 1″+ of ice!
Areas from Frankfort up to Cheboygan and North could see heavy snow in many different waves.
Snow totals could easily surpass a foot but we will have a better idea on totals as models show more agreement.
Winds could be out of the West/Northwest at 20-40mph with gusts around 60mph.
This storm will be ongoing from Sunday morning to Monday evening.
Next Week: Colder
Some lake effect snow showers on Tuesday morning for St. Patrick’s Day, but skies will be brighter in the afternoon and evening.
Highs will be in the low teens to low 20s.
Wednesday is looking for some scattered snow throughout the day.
Highs will be in the mid 20s to low 30s.
Thursday is looking warmer with a chance for some mixed showers.
Highs will be in the mid 30s to mid 40s.
