As we head into the colder months, curling up with a cozy blanket is our favorite thing to do! Today, we’re showing you how to crochet your own blanket — no tools necessary!
For this project, you’ll need:
- 6 skeins of Bernat Alize Blanket EZ yarn
- Scissors
- A large space (table, kitchen counter) to work on
To make your own blanket, follow these steps:
Step one: Unravel a bit of your first yarn skein. Then, count out 65 loops from your yarn, starting from left to right. This is how long your blanket will be. At this point, your yarn skein should be on your right-hand side.
Step two: Once you hit your 65th loop, move your skein over to the left-hand side. Take your 66th loop and push it through the inside of the 65th loop. Continue “crocheting” from right to left until you get to the end of your yarn. You’re taking the “top” loops and weaving the loops in from behind through the bottom row.
Step three: When you get to the end of your yarn, repeat the process moving from left to right.
Step four: If you’re adding in a new skein of yarn, take the last loop on your blanket and the first loop on the new skein and weave them together. This will help attach the new skein of yarn to your blanket.
Step five: Try paying attention to the loops you crochet. With this yarn, we found it was really easy to drop a loop.
Step six: Once you have all six skeins crocheted in your blanket, you should be left with a top with loops that are free. Braid the top loops together. To do that: take your left loop and fold it over inside the right loop. Continue doing that throughout the top of your blanket. On your last loop, cut your loop in half and tie the strands together.
Step seven: If you found you’ve dropped some loops while you worked on your project, cut the loop in half and weave the strands through your blanket.
And that’s it! You have a beautiful blanket for yourself, or a nice gift for a family member or friend!
