Teachers & Parents:
Does your kid have a science question?
Have them send us a video with a weather question to weather@9and10news.com!
This week’s experiment starts off sticky but ends up looking beautiful! All you need are some simple things lying around the house and a little bit of imagination!
Supplies:
- Liquid Glue
- Dish soap
- Food Coloring
- Containers
- Toothpicks
Now that you have the supplies, let’s make some magic!
Start by pouring your glue into one of the containers. The thicker the layer of glue, the longer it will take your masterpiece to dry.
Next, pour a small amount of dish soap into a separate container.
Finally, for the fun part, add a few drops of food coloring to the glue and use the toothpick to dap drops of dish soap onto the dye.
The Science:
The dish soap will break up the molecules in the glue releasing some of the water that is stored inside. This combines with the water already inside of the food dye and makes it more liquidy. So the food dye will imeadiatly branch out and flow across the surface of the glue, making really cool patterns!
If your kiddos try this experiment, send us photos of you and your experiment and you might get to see it during weather on The Four on Tuesdays!
Make sure you tune in every Tuesday for a New 9&10 STEM.
