The Altonen family in Williamsburg has been in the apple growing industry for decades but just in the last four years, they have been turning those apples into their delicious hard cider.
“We started out with just a simple apple cider and that one’s called “Smart Alec”,” said co-owner Kristen Altonen. “A lot of our flavors are inspired by family nicknames so that’s named after our son, and then we have a hopped version called “Jay Bird” named after my brother-in-law, and we have a real fruity flavor called “Queen Ann” named after my husband’s aunt.”
Whitney Amann and photojournalist Jeremy Erickson take you to and tell you why picking your favorite cider, is like picking your favorite family member, in this week’s BrewVine.
