Hook & Hunting: Applications for Elk, Bear Hunting Licenses Now Available

Applications for elk and bear hunting licenses opened Thursday.

Hunters can apply to be part of the drawing anywhere hunting licenses are sold.

They can also apply to be part of the Pure Michigan Hunt.

The Pure Michigan Hunt includes bear, elk, turkey and deer.

Three of those applicants will also be chosen to receive $4,000 worth of hunting gear.

The DNR says it’s a chance to not only walk away with some expensive prizes, but also an extra hunting tag.

“If you’re extremely lucky and you drew both an elk tag through the elk drawing and you won the Pure Michigan Hunt, then you could have two elk licenses in one year. That’s quite a stretch of the odds, although it did happen last year. We did have one person get an elk license both in the Pure Michigan and in the drawing,” said Brian Mastenbrook, DNR wildlife field operations.

Results of the elk and bear license drawing will be available on June 25.
