PICKFORD — The Pickford Panthers football team got an energetic send off Friday morning before heading to Marquette to play in the Division 1 8-man championship game Saturday against Deckerville.

Before the chartered bus took off for the three-plus hour ride, the entire school district filled the Panther gym to cheer on the undefeated panther team.

Then the team was given an escort out of town.

The Panthers last won a state title in 2019 in Division 2.

In 2018, they were state runner up in Division 1.

Susan Edington had two children on that 2019 team. She is now the athletic director and still considers all the players family.

“It’s fun as an AD and as well as a parent. You get to see the excitement in the kids and even though these guys are not my kids, they are still my kids. It’s awesome to see them get to go back and do this again,” said Edington.

Our 9&10 sports team will be at the Superior Dome Saturday for the 11:00 a.m, game and will have all the highlights and post-game reaction.
