Bates field goals complete Lions comeback win against Texans

Lions survive 5 Goff interceptions

Two late field goals by Jake Bates just snuck through the uprights to give Detroit a 26-23 comeback win Sunday night in Houston.

Detroit is now 8-1 and has won 7 in a row.

Quarterback Jared Goff had an uncharacteristically inaccurate night throwing five interceptions.

Detroit found themselves in an early 10-0 hole before Goff connected with tight end Sam LaPorta to pull Detroit within 3.

That would be the lone highlight for Goff in the first half as the Lions QB threw a trio of interceptions in the first half, two leading to Houston points.

The end result was a 23-7 halftime hole.

Detroit intercepted Houston QB C.J. Stroud to start the second half, but Goff returned the ball to the Texans with his fourth pick of the night.

Still, Detroit and David Montgomery found the endzone to pull Detroit to within 10 and picked off Stroud again midway through the third quarter.

But Goff was once again picked off for his fifth INT of the night.

Detroit pulled to within 3 early in the fourth quarter as Goff found Amon-Ra St. Brown for a touchdown.

A 58 yard field goal by Jake Bates tied the game at 23.

Houston missed a field goal at mid-field to give Detroit the ball with just under two minutes to play.

Bates would just sneak a 52 yard field goal in as time expired to lift Detroit to victory.

The Detroit defense held Houston scoreless in the second half.

The Lions host Jacksonville next Sunday at Ford Field.
