Jury convicts Clare Co. man of 2018 criminal sexual conduct against a minor relative

LANSING – On Nov. 21, a jury seated in the 55th Circuit Court in Clare County found Roland Bourgeois, 56, of Lake, guilty on two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct, announced Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. The jury deliberated for less than an hour to reach the conviction.

In 2018, Bourgeois committed multiple acts of criminal sexual conduct on a child relative. The victim did not disclose these crimes until last year, to a school counselor, in part because Bourgeois repeatedly told her not to tell others what had happened.

“I am grateful for the jury’s service and the diligent work of Child Protective Services and the Michigan State Police whose investigation led to these verdicts,” Nessel said. “Justice, however, would not have been possible without the courage of the victim to come forward, and I would like to commend her bravery. My department will continue to support survivors and hold the abusers who commit these heinous crimes accountable.”
