On Tuesday, the Traverse City Comedy Fest announces the addition of the Funny Women of a Certain Age show at the City Opera House on Saturday, April 12 at 3 p.m.
“What began as a way for Carole Montgomery to work with her friends has exploded as a phenomenon on the comedy scene. When Carole (a veteran of the stand-up scene for over 40 years) started, you would never see two female comics on the same show. Fast forward to today’s comedy scene and nothing has changed, even though there are far more women in comedy now. Frustrated with how women are portrayed on television once they hit 50, Carole decided to do something about it. ‘Funny Women’ – also known as WOACA (Women of a Certain Age) – was created to give older women comics a chance to be seen and heard. Carole is fighting ageism AND sexism one joke at a time. The women who appear in WOACA are all funny, vibrant, and brilliant – they just happen to be of a certain age. These women paved the way for the female comics you see today.”
Tickets for the “Funny Women of a Certain Age” show at the Traverse City Comedy Fest will go on sale to the public on Wednesday, November 13 at 10 a.m. at TraverseCityComedyFest.com. Reserved tickets are $40-$55. Tickets are also on sale now for festival headliner Marc Maron, who will perform on Saturday, April 12 at 6pm and 8:30pm at the City Opera House. Ticket information for additional festival shows will be announced in the coming months.
Each of the individual members performing will also headline a separate show at the Traverse City Comedy Club during the festival.
