The Dafter Township Volunteer Fire Department in Chippewa County hosted their annual “Our Firehouse to Yours” equipment donation on Friday.
Through the program, sponsored by Belfor Property Restoration, over $1 million worth of high-quality used fire equipment was distributed to more than 40 fire departments.
Donated items included fire hoses, nozzles, helmets, gloves, turnout gear and more. Larger fire departments in southern Michigan contributed items that they are replacing or upgrading.
“This program here, it really helps out these small communities outfit with basic essential needs. One department came from three hours away and was able to obtain the air packs...they didn’t have any that worked. So it just shows the impact of this program,” said Austin Conway, Dafter VFD chief.
Belfor started the program in 2016, which continues to grow every year.
