Resource officer, community member team up to fill Benzie Co. school pantry

INTERLOCHEN — With the school year approaching, schools are starting to stock up on necessities to help their students. In Benzie County, two people are helping out in a big way.

April Elliott, a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and Deputy McKinley, the resource officer in Benzie County Schools, teamed up to start a pantry drive. They’re looking for non-perishable food, soap and other hygiene products.

“(We’re) keeping these kids’ minds healthy, feeding their brains, fueling their minds, I should say, with food,” said Elliott. “And just having the things. The simple things.”

You can donate items at the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Interlochen or using their Amazon Wish List. The pantry is still low, but Elliott hopes it will grow as the start of school gets closer.
