Deerfield Township shooting suspect arrested in Mecosta Co.

The Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office said Allen David Kuhn was arrested at a home in Deerfield Township on Thursday.

Deputies said a citizen tip led to his arrest for assault with intent to murder. The investigation also led to arrests of a 37-year-old woman and 29-year-old man for outstanding warrants unrelated to the shooting.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the MSP K-9 Unit and Meceola Consolidated Central Dispatch.

8/16/24 11:10 a.m.

Late Wednesday night, Aug. 14, deputies from the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office and MSP troopers were dispatched to 137th Avenue, just south of 1 Mile Road in Deerfield Township, for a report of shots fired.

During the investigation, they learned that the suspect, Allen David Kuhn, used a handgun to fire at his step-father. Deputies and troopers searched the area but could not find Kuhn.

He is considered to be armed and dangerous, and he currently has felony warrants out for his arrest. Kuhn is a white male, 6 ft., 140 lbs., with brown curly hair and hazel eyes. He was last seen wearing black pants and a black shirt.
